Wind Mountain Lipizzans is located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, northeast of Eugene and Springfield Oregon. Owned by Christine Bell, grand-daughter of a Viennese born stock and bond broker, Wind Mountain is set in a peaceful 30 acre plateau in the lush greenery of Oregon's rain forests.

"I had been a social worker in Chicago who burned out from too much work, and an unhealthy way of living. When I became too ill to work I took a look at my life and began to realize I had to move somewhere I could find a more natural life, in nature. My husband Aaron was ready as well. He was poised to set up his own business and it could be started anywhere in the U.S. We chose Oregon and have been happy here ever since. Gradually my health recovered, with homeopathy, meditation, good organic foods, and regular hikes in the mountains in the company of my Great Pyrenees dogs. I went back to one of my oldest loves: horses. In 1991 my husband bought me a Lipizzan yearling I named Tristan. I had many adventures with this beloved horse and only increased my interest in this wonderful breed from the homeland of my grandfather. after Tristan, we bought a Percheron gelding named Ivan for my husband and a quarter horse schoolmaster named Siegfried. We still have these three horses and they are well and hearty at 16, 20 and 30 years old respectively."

"In 1997 we moved to a larger property in Deerhorn. It took ten years to develop this property, pastures carved out of thick forests, fertilized and top soil added to the thin acid forest soil. Two barns were built, a stallion barn and a large mare and foal barn. Fencing and dry paddocks were put in. For four years my husband and I lived in a tiny manufactered home until we could save the money and design a home for ourselves in a remote part of the property. "

"Throughout we tried to do only selective logging, use no chemicals or pesticides and be friendly to the wildlife. At first there were no birds, but gradually they began to come until we have quite a collection around our feeders and fountains. This is on top of the 25 bird collection of free-flying parrots we have in our aviaries."

"In 2003 I started my Lipizzan breeding business which quickly grew from one stallion to four stallions and five mares. Each one chosen very carefully from the very best I could purchase. Most of them quite young. Something I still prefer since you can shape the upbringing of a foal by raising it with plenty of outside exercise in pastures, protecting it from harsh treatment, and giving it lots of early handling. You can also feed them correctly from early on, neither over or under feeding and giving the correct supplements for optimum bone strength and growth. I am now a Dynamite advocate and all my horses are on dynamite supplements and products."
