Gisela 1989 Lipizzan Mare |
Gisella was bred by June and Leonard Boardman of White Horse Vale Lipizzans. She was sold to a Canadian woman as a young mare. She was started under saddle by Craig Hunter. Later Craig bred her to Maestoso Canada and she produced the fine mare Tacoma. Later Gisella was purchased by Connie Michellitti of Oregon. Gisella was born in 1989 and has produced six foals including the top rated stallion in North America, Pluto Gisella who was evaluated at 93.5%. Gisella is one of those unusual mares who although evaluated herself at only 77% she continues to consistantly produce spectacular foals. One of them, Tacoma became one of Connie's top producing broodmares. Her other offspring are: Galactica 83.89%, Pluto Gisella III 77%, Gaea 83.5%, Pluto Gisella II 82.5% Some mares leave their stamp on their foals. Some mares are pass through mares which means that they let the stallion make his stamp on the foals. I suspect that this may be the case with Gisella If I can find good stallions for her and then breed her to my own stallions she should have outstanding foals. Gisella is currently bred to Maestoso Canada a stallion known for producing fine broodmares. The foal is due around August 1st. This is the same breeding that produced Tacoma, an excellant broodmare. This foal will be for sale. Gisella will be bred again in Spring of 2008 for a 2009 foal. In personality Gisella is a friendly, confident broodmare. She knows who she is and quickly took over our broodmare band like a savvy old lady who told the youngsters they'd better respect their elders. Anna was a little upset at first, after all she had always been the head mare. But Anna is a very dignified, refined lady and she was no real match for Gisela. It was like an experienced cowgirl with six shooters meeting a Boston bred East coast lady from a finishing school. There was no contest. Gisella was the new head boss. Gisella is not petty and doesn't get irritated over small stuff. she just has to get the best place in the pasture, water when she wants it and she has to be the first one out of the gate for dinner time. Victoria, Isabeau, and Patrizia have all accepted Gisella as the new matron of our little herd.
